About Us

We are a small family farm that grows corn & soybeans in North Central Iowa with the latest equipment & precision farming tools.


A great emphasis is put on land conservation, variable rate seeding, fertilizing and accurate record keeping. All field operations are autosteered with sub-inch precision using the most accurate RTK technology.

Fifth Generation Family Farm

Cran Farms was established in 1880 when John Cran moved to Humboldt County, Iowa. 

 

His son, William Cran was born in 1882 and farmed.

William Cran Jr. (Bill) was born in 1923 and farmed with his brother Don.

Robert (Bob) was born 1952 and started farming part-time with his Dad in 1975 while working full time on the Saylorville Dam construction.  Rock was mined and hauled from the Bradgate quarry to Ankeny on trains, where it was used to build the dam.  Bob loaded and unloaded train cars in Bradgate and Ankeny before switching to farming full time in 1976 with 100 acres and some livestock.    

 

William Cran (Bill) was born in 1981.  

Bill graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in Agriculture Business and worked for 16 year at Ag Leader Technology in Ames as a GPS and Guidance Product Specialist, while farming part-time with his Dad.  With his wife Ashley and two children, Bill will continue the farming operation with Bob.
